Deborah Asiimwe was born in Kiruhura, in South Western Uganda. She is an award winning playwright and performer, currently working as a specialist for the Sundance Institute East Africa and a co-curator of the Kampala International Theatre Festival. She received a B. A. in Theatre and Performing Arts from Makerere University and an M.F.A. in Writing for Performance from the California Institute of the Arts. Asiimwe’s recent plays include Forgotten World, Cooking Oil, Appointment with gOD and Un-entitled which have been produced and staged in the US and East Africa. In 2015 Asiimwe became a fellow at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, Germany.
